Are you starting a new startup? There are chances you might be building a product nobody wants.

The Lean production production method is a method that was created by Toyota in the XX century to improve production and avoid “waste” in the production chain. The process, that improved a lot the Japanese company’s efficiency has been also adopted to other type of industries, specially the software industry.

The latest application has been the creation and management of startups. “Lean Startup” was created by Eric Ries and it has been applied to companies like Facebook or Instagram.

In this 2-hour workshop, Innosis, a consultancy company from Malaga specialized in startup creation, will tell us about Lean Startup and how it can help us to identify what it brings value to our company and what it is just “waste”.

The workshop will be on Thursday 4th of October, from 18:30 to 20:30. Totally free. Seats are limited, but you can save yours in the inscription form.

When someone starts a project, any help is more than welcome and appreciated. Internet communication brings more possibilities of getting to a target audience. But, at the beginning, not always it is possible to get the help from a professional consultancy agency. Starting with personal branding is a cheaper alternative and nobody is going to fight for your project as you do. Marketing consultant, Alejandro Blocdeesbozos, will teach us the basics of how to start with a good personal brand around our new project.

Alejandro is a graphic designer graduated by Escuela de Arte de San Telmo (Málaga) and with a post grade on Community Management by OBS (Barcelona). In between he has taken a lot of web design and online marketing courses. He has been managing online communities since 2001 and working as online communication consultant since 2009. He has also been a community management teacher at FormanFormación and he is a usual speaker at Internet and Social Media conferences. He is a former Nido coworker and he always join us at desayuNidos

Breakfast is free and it is open to anyone, no matter if you are a member of Nido or not, so come to have bread with coffee while meeting very interesting people. As it is starting to be a bit warm outside, we will also have cold juice.

We will talk about our work and projects but if you want to give a more formal presentation of your project, just let us know in the form. We will provide you with a screen and a board for presentations. This is a great opportunity to show your ideas and ask for feedback to like-mind people.

Our friends from Néxudus, a software company, has created Co-Feed-Time, a contest aimed for coworkers, members of one of the coworking spaces which participate in the contest.

Nido joined the contest as soon as we found out, and last week we got the materials needed to participate.

What’s all about? As you can see in the picture, Nexudus has sent to us some coasters to be used during coffee breaks, while we talk and mingle with other coworkers.

What are they looking for? They want you to tell your experience in your coworking space, no matter the chosen format (drawing, text, video, photography, code), but you need to use the coaster. So, start using your imagination, as prizes are worth the effort

First prize is 500€ and a subscription for a year to Nexudus Shop, a web application to manage a virtual shop for products, downloads or tickets.

The best would be to enter in their official site, and start thinking about your contribution, as you have to send it before the 20th of May. You will find the coasters next to the coffee machine. So, come on! We want to have the winner coworker coming from Nido! And, if we don’t win, we will always share some laughs about it during our coffee breaks.

A week ago we had an very intensive and enriching Saturday. Saturday morning we hosted Colbrain‘s crowdfunding workshop, an Andalusian crowdfunding platform, and in the afternoon we gave a talk about coworking at Estudio Abierto, an emergent art alternative exhibition, organized by Tuttifrutti Productions, an art collective.

For the crowdfunding workshop we did have to arrange on of the coworking rooms, as many people wanted to attend and we didn’t want to leave people out. Salva introduced the crowdfunding concepts and, after a brief self presentation from the attendees, we evaluated some of the projects from people attending the workshop. Between all of us, we gave feedback to three projects and Salva explained what Colbrain takes into account to accept a project.

And to finish the workshop we had some tapas from El Come Sano, that as a practical example we helped financing.

Saturday afternoon we had the opportunity to enjoy Estudio Abierto, and we collaborated with them offering a talk about coworking. The exhibition itself was held during a weekend in an apartment at La Merced square, which transformed during that period in an alternative art gallery for emergent local art. Moreover, the artists also showed their studio, with sketches and materials from the creative process. It was an honour that Tuttifrutti invited us to give this talk. The feedback was great and people showed a lot of support for the project. Congratulations to Tuttifrutti for the big success of Estudio Abierto!

Pedro is planning publishing a music magazine to cover small jazz bands from all Andalusia. He has already thought of the layout, he has programmed his first interviews and even decided which songs will be included in the CD part of the magazine. He just misses a small thing: money to publish it.

Maria has heard about Pedro’s project, and she is upset because there are so many interesting projects that she likes that will never go out because of the lack of money. She loves jazz and she would love to see that magazine published. But, what would happen if there would be three hundred people thinking as Maria?

Collective funding, known as crowdfunding in its digital version, looks to establish a way of doing contributions to get creators money to finance their ideas without going to the traditional path of the bank loan. This is a person to person relation, with no economic interests, that opens the door for new open collaboration relationships.

Next 10th of March, Saturday, from 11 am, Colbrain, one of the first Andalusian crowdfunding platforms, will be offering a workshop in Nido where the keys of collective funding will be analysed (workshop will be taught in Spanish, but questions in English are welcome, if you understand Spanish better than you speak it).

Colbrain’s goal is to benefit, through economic resources, projects that promote social transformation, cooperation, mutual benefits and horizontality, moving towards sustained models and social innovation.

One of the characteristics of free software projects is that developers from all over the world work together in a project, remotely. From time to time they get together to have face to face time and they propose goals to achieve during those days. Those face to face 2-3 day meetings to hack on something specific is called “hackfest”.

This year, the Gstreamer hackfest (Gstreamer is a multimedia library for Linux) will be happening in Malaga, and Nido will be the venue.

From Wednesday 25th, until Friday 27th, Nido will host 18 developers from around the world who will work together and will enrich our coworking space with their experience and multiculturalism. Also, we are sure that they will love it here in Málaga.

One of the first things that we want to organize in this new year are breakfasts in which we all can share experiences, tell others our projects or even ask for help to other coworkers.

The basic characteristics of these breakfasts are:

• Nido covers the costs. There will be coffee, tea and something to eat.
• Nido breakfasts are open to everybody. No matter whether you work or not from Nido, if you know us or if it is the first time that you approach coworking.
• Theme will be open, but if anyone wants to present their projects or chat about anything in particular, contact us, and we will put you in the agenda.

The first of these breakfasts will be on Thursday, 12th of January. We don’t know yet whether Thursdays will be the definitive day or the frequency of these events, so we have thought that the best thing is letting the community decide (who else?). We have published a small survey asking you when and how you would like these breakfaskts, in case you have a spare minute to answer a couple of questions.
